I was experiencing sciatic pain with foot drop. Whether I was sitting, standing or lying down, I was in pain all day and night. I could not find any position that would give me even temporary relief from the burning in my right leg and foot; it felt like a size 9 foot in a size 5 shoe. I had to take a leave of absence from my job because there was no way I could sit behind a desk working on a computer all day. My foot and ankle were so weak I did not dare to even go for a walk with the dog. Grocery shopping became difficult due to how much walking, lifting and carrying is involved. Housework, like cleaning the bathtub and washing the floors, was neglected because I could not safely bend over. The tips of my toes were so sensitive that even a lightweight blanket brushing on them hurt. Most nights I had to sleep alone so my husband could get some rest without being concerned that his leg might touch against mine causing me great discomfort.
My family doctor told me about Spinal Decompression Therapy. He said the MRI results showed that L3 and L4 discs were bulging. He suggested SDT might help, as he handed me a referral slip to Taylor Chiropractic Offices. I did some research and decided to give it a try, even though a good friend told me her husband tried it, (but not at Taylor Chiropractic), and she said SDT didn’t work for him. I learned that not all SDT practitioners are the same, so I suggest you do your research like I did.
I’m so glad I listened to my doctor and not to my friend. For the first 3 weeks I did 3 sessions of SDT a week and the results are amazing. Every day the tension in my foot and toes gets less and less, and the pain in my leg has virtually disappeared. I am moving around much quicker as the muscles in my foot and ankle are getting stronger. I am back to work for 5 hours a day (using a stand up desk and taking frequent stretch breaks). And I can wrap my feet in a blanket and sleep on either side, not just my back anymore. Dr. Taylor also recommended exercises that support a healthy back. I am doing them everyday and they are helping a lot. I am completely hopeful for a full recovery. Until then, the bathtub and floors are my husband’s new chores!
